Feb 17, 2022
Tribulus terrestris active ingredients include alkaloids, three alkaloids have been isolated, namely halman, halmin and halol; flavonoids, the glycosides of flavonoids contained are mainly quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin; also contains saponins, the main active ingredients of Tribulus terrestris are yannioside, diosgenin, diosgenin, diosgenin, proto-diosgenin, proto-diosgenin, tribulus terrestris F, neohaike Saponins such as saponin and Tribulosin, Diosgenin, Roscoe's saponin, Green Lotus saponin, 3-deoxy Diosgenin and Haikosgenin, etc.; other sterols are also contained, mainly β-sitosterol, soy sterol and rape sterol; Tribulus terrestris roots contain 22 free amino acids.
Pharmacological effects
1. Sexual strengthening effect
Through the method of cell quantification in mice, test its effect on sperm formation, the results show that it can effectively increase the number of spermatogonia, spermatocytes and sperm cells in mice, and also increase the concentration of sertoli cells involved in sperm formation. Sperm viability tests showed that sperm inactivation time was 67 % longer in the drugged group than in the control group, and that it had different degrees of efficacy on lack of libido and delayed response in animals. In experiments with healthy humans, Tribulus terrestris extract was shown to increase LH and testosterone levels in men and FSH levels in women.
2. Effects on cardiovascular system and central nervous system
In a study of blood pressure changes in cats under anesthesia, it was found that Tribulus terrestris extract had no substantial effect on intramuscular blood pressure, but had a significant effect on intraperitoneal blood pressure, it also enhanced cardiac contractility, slowed heart rate, improved phlegm symptoms, improved blood rheology, reduced platelet aggregation and lowered blood lipids, and had therapeutic potential for delaying end-organ damage in hypertensive patients. Through neuropharmacological tests, Tribulus terrestris extract stimulates external excitation of the bone and enhances its resilience. It also has a moderate inhibitory effect on convulsions, decreases their sustained reflex effect, and reduces gait disorders.
3. Promotes muscle strength
Tribulus terrestris extract used as a replacement enhances protein synthesis and maintains nitrogen balance, which is beneficial for muscle growth and strengthening of athletes, and rapidly reduces muscle tension and allows recovery. It is possible that its muscle-strengthening effects are achieved by stimulating the central nervous system. Tribulus terrestris extract is currently used in the American bodybuilding industry, and is used by the United States weightlifting team and the professional blue team N B A. As a hormone-free substance, Tribulus terrestris extract can be an important supplement for bodybuilders and other athletes.
4. Choleretic effect
Pharmacological and clinical studies of Tribulus terrestris extract by several research institutes belonging to the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Society have shown that it can reduce cholesterol levels, prevent the increase of blood cholesterol and inhibit the decrease of lecithin-cholesterol ratio. Tribulus terrestris extract also has the ability to prevent lipid deposition in the arteries, heart muscle and liver, and has no effect on the vegetative nervous system.
5. Other pharmacological effects
Tribulus terrestris extract can reduce the V C content in the adrenal glands of rats, which makes it a good potential for anti-aging applications. Tribulus terrestris also has a mild diuretic effect, which makes it effective in patients suffering from edema. Tribulus terrestris extract can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and other bacteria, showing some anti-inflammatory effects. As the research on the pharmacological effects of Tribulus terrestris deepens, Envy Cai, an ancient Chinese medicine, will play a greater role in modern medicine.
